I was busy clearing the mess on this blog.

Screw you bastards for messing with my blog.

There were some sort sort of attacks early this morning, some assholes sending multiple requests overloading the server, causing this blog downtime for more than 3 hours. Actually, I don’t know for how long. Only realised it happened when I came to work this morning around 8am, tried to login and view this blog, cannot be accessed. Perhaps blog was down earlier than that, since the hosting provider said one of the attack was at around 7am. Made some calls, submitted few support tickets, problem solved around 12pm.

The support guy told me, if this problem keep happening I may be asked to switch out from their server. 1st thing he said  to me when I asked him what happened to my blog

“Er, your site under attack lah this morning. A lot of requests, there’s one ip with more than 30 requests at one time” (Er, 30 requests.. a lot meh?)

Another attack at my lousy blog???

This blog was defaced on October 21st, last month. Just now, when I was chatting with Mary on Skype, she asked me this:

Of Numb3rs, Chinese people, Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, WordPress plugins and spicy scandal

Today is Friday, 8th of August, 2008 – 080808 aka 888! The number 8 for Chinese is a very auspicious number. The pronunciation of the word 8 in Chinese dialects is very similar to the word ‘wealth’, so you know why the obsession among Chinese people with this number.

Chinese are obsessed with numbers, often relating and making sure their phone numbers, wedding date, car plates, anything quantifiable  to be  a good number. If you ask me, how on earth a piece of plastic with the number 888 in front and back of your car can bring good fortune to you, I have no idea. Just because it rhymes with auspicious words?

Probably the only God that matters to many Chinese is God of Wealth and a big part of their life, being hardworking and slaving their ass all that is for one simple reason – chasing wealth  = money. It is not uncommon to hear remarks praising Chinese people as ruthless, conniving, greedy and materialistic bastards. Hahahahaha! Such wonderful traits!

Panic! @ the Blog

Noktah Hitam is revamping his blog theme. I am thinking to do the same too, but I have lousy IT skills so forget about it muahahahaha! Sticking too long to one theme is kinda boring. I love this Black and White theme very much. Simple and neat and customizable really, just me not so good in doing it without messing the whole layout . I am thinking to put up a banner for this blog, see if I know my way around the codes

I edited my old banner* using Paint.

I was shocked yesterday when I cannot access my blog in the evening. At first, I thought the server was down again (damn it! ) so I check Cibol’s and Melbie’s blog because they are using the same hosting provider as mine. Their blogs were accessible! Then I tried to log in the WordPress admin page and was greeted with a message – ‘The database is outdated. Please update bla bla bla’. Cheebuy! I just upgraded my WordPress to the latest version last week, damn I must did something wrong during the installation? So I googled here and there, pm-ed few friends.. went to the Cpanel to check the codings (I tak paham sangat pun..) and I messaged Noktah Hitam on Gmail. He was not around to reply at that time, so I continue to do what shits I also had no idea at that time.

Then maybe because of divine intervention, I could access the main page again! Hurray!! Finally!! Wait… I couldn’t access any of the blog entries. I could see only the main page, but when I clicked on the entries, I received another stupid message ‘Page not found bla bla bla’. I keep on trying and clicking like a mad man. Imagine the frustration.. it is like a boxer trying to scratch his itchy balls but he cannot.

End of the story, when I was about to give up (I was thinking, fark it! Just start from scratch again lah! I still have the backup for some entries. ) suddenly all went back to normal. Relieved!! Noktah Hitam replied me in Google Chat then asking what was wrong but I said nothing wrong, everything is good now.

Conclusion :

1. I still have no idea what happened.

2. I still have no idea what I did or did not to solve it.

Moral of the story :

1. Do backup of your blog.

2. Do backup of your blog.

3. Do not panic. Wait for few hours, go watch movie, oogle at chicks, grab a coffee what ever then come back and check again. Most of the time this thing happens due to crappyshittysmellyrottenfuckup server problems.
